REVIEW: The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

~AG~

Bought The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension 10% as an alternative acne treatment, specifically for my back acne. Most acne treatment contains Salicylic acid (BHA) and benzoyl peroxide which are not recommended for those who are planning to conceive or are pregnant . This product also has properties such as:
The Ordinary is not readily available in Singapore, so I had to buy it online. It costs S$14 for 30 ml of product, which should lasts 2-3 months. The Ordinary website retails it for USD9.93. This cream-gel brightening formula contains 10% of high-purity Azelaic Acid. Azelaic acid brightens the skin tone while improving skin texture. This product is supposed to help reduce the look of blemishes.

Overall, this product does help to improve the appearance of blemishes. Though, the result is not immediate. Been using it on and off for over a month, and it does help to improve my back acne. You can use this product twice a day on targeted areas. The only thing I do not like about this product is the scent. It has a distinct sharp scent which becomes apparent when applied to the face, so I only use The Ordinary Azelaic Acid Suspension for my back acne.

Overall, it is a good product and I would repurchase it. It is an affordable acne treatment, at under $20. Wish it was more readily available in Singapore.

NEW BUY: Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream in Tube Form

~AG~

This Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a favorite of MG. She has gone through over 3 bottles of Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream. She usually applies this blue cream after popping her pimples. Now, the Midnight Blue Cream comes in a tub version. This packaging makes it more hygienic for application. A 60ml of tub costs S$37. MG purchased it from WishTrend Shopee store, as they were having an offer. I also bought one tub of the Midnight Blue Cream for myself.
Previously, I had tried MG's Midnight Blue Cream when we were traveling together. This Calming Cream does help to reduce redness and irritation. Since my skin can get sensitive at times, this Calming Cream would be a good product to have in my beauty arsenal. My cheeks tend to have some redness when it is irritated/dry. Hope this Calming Cream will help the redness and bumps I have on my cheeks area recently.

REVIEW: KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch Acai Berry

~AG~

Bought KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch Acai Berry from Shilla Duty Free. It was selling for $27 for 10 pairs. They were having a promotion, 10% off Korean products at Shilla Duty Free. At the end, it costs S$2.43 for each pair of eye patch.

Actually have never heard of this brand. After some reading, I found out that KoCoStar is a South Korean brand that is known to have mask series that can be used from head to toe. They have nail and hand pack, feet pack, lip mask, sheet mask and eye patch. There was a selection of Tropical Eye Patch to chose from: Pitaya (Dragonfruit), Mango, Coconut, Papaya.

Since Acai Berry is known for its antioxidant properties, I decided to try it. The Eye Patch contains natural fruit extract that gives the hydrogel its color. This hydrogel eye patch is more translucent compared to Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch. What I noticed instantly about KoCoStar Eye Patch is that it is not as soaked with essence compared to Petitfee. KoCoStar feels relatively dry when I removed it from the packaging. The Petitfee Eye Patch tends to slide down the eye area since it is drenched with essence. But KoCoStar Eye Patch stays on pretty well.  The KoCoStar eye patch is much longer compared to Petitfee, thus covering a larger area of the under eyes.

After using KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch for 15 minutes, my undereye area feels cooling. I think it would have been more refreshing if I had put the Eye Patch in the fridge before use. On KoCoStar's website, they encourage the Eye Patch to be used daily but I am rather lazy about it. Since I use it once a week only, I cannot tell whether the Eye Patch helps to brighten the under eye area.

Overall, I would purchase other KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch to try as it is rather affordable. Maybe I would try the Dragonfruit Eye Patch next. Since each pair is individually packed, Kocostar Eye Patch makes it great for traveling.

REVIEW: Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch

 ~AG~

Bought this Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch from StyleKorean.com. It costs USD 23.36 (S$30) for these hydrogel eye patches. A tub contains 60 eye patches and comes with a tiny spatula. You are supposed to finish using them within two months of opening it. The reason why I bought this eye patch is because of my severe dark circles and eye puffiness. Hopefully these hydrogel patches will help to relieve puffiness and my panda eyes.

As the name says it, Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch contains 24K GOLD, how luxurious! It also contains ginseng, bird's nest, collagen, aloe vera and rose flower water. These beneficial ingredients are supposed to make your eyes area moisturised and glowing. EGF which stands for Epidermal Growth Factors, is a naturally occurring protein in human beings. EGF works in skin repairing and stimulating cell growth. I have learnt about EGF during my days as a Biology student in University. Previously, I have used a sheet mask that contained EGF and had a positive experience.

To make these eye patches more refreshing, I store them in the fridge. The cool eye patches feel nice when my eyes are tired. The one thing that I do not like about these eye patches is that it tends to slide down after I put it on. The hydrogel does not stick well and seems to be too slippery. Once the serum is soaked by the skin, the hydrogel patch will stick better.

Trying to reduce my panda eyes
After using these hydrogel patches for more than 5 times, I can say that there is no significant improvement to my under eyes area.  My dark circles are still there. I tend to use it at night after facial cleansing and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. The cooled eye patches refreshes the under eye area and help with puffiness. The skin around the eyes feel soothed after use. Though, its effectiveness on dark circles is still questionable.

Overall, I would not repurchase Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch as it takes a long while to go through 60 eye patches. This tub of Petite Gold Eye Patch will lasts about 7-8 months if you use it once a week. Each set of eye patch costs S$1 which is affordable for such an ingredient-rich hydrogel. However, I prefer eye mask or eye patch that comes in single use packaging as it will minimise wastage. We girls often get bored of our skincare products, and like to try new things. So I can predict only using half of these eye patches.

REVIEW: Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm

A jar of Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm
~AG~

The Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm comes with 15ml of product. It costs Euro 56 which is equivalent to S$90. Didn't realized it was that expensive! This product was recommended to me by the French lady at the pharmacy. She mentioned that this product will help my clogged pores and blemishes. She recommended that I use it once or twice a week on the T-zones and blemish areas.
This is a unique product which I have not seen elsewhere on the market - a mix of essential oils that target skin blemishes.

This Darphin Purifying Balm contains 12 Essential Oils from medicinal plants, spices and flowers to target skin imperfections. It contains: 1) apricot kernel oil, 2) sunflower seed oil, 3) rosewood oil, 4) grapefruit peel oil, 5) thyme oil, 6) lavender oil, 7) cinnamon bark oil, 8) germanium flower oil, 9) sage oil and a few more essential oils. This Balm clarifies pores and helps reduce imperfections. You are supposed to leave the Purifying Balm overnight to work on the skin.

This Darphin Purifying Balm has been part of my skin care regimen for over three months now. I try to use it once a week, and apply it only to my T-zone areas. It has strong essential oil scent that is tolerable. Especially when I see visible blackheads and pimples emerging, I would apply this Darphin Purifying Balm before bed and leave it on overnight. The next morning, I do not see significant difference. Though I would say that my skin feels less congested. This product works more for a preventative measure. I think you have to use this product regularly to notice the difference that this Darphin Purifying Balm can make.
Even though this jar only contains 15ml of product, it will lasts a long time. I have used it for three months, and there seems to plenty of product left. However, I would not repurchase Darphin Aromatic Purifying Balm as it is expensive and the effect is not immediately seen. This product is not a must-have for my skincare regimen.

REVIEW: Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream

Pictures courtesy of Wishtrend
~MG~
Last April, I bought Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream in Seoul at ÅLAND. Cannot remember how much I bought it for but it retails for US$24.50 (S$34) on Wishtrend.  Been wanting to try out this product for a long time after reading the positive reviews from youtube and wishtrend.
This Calming Cream has been part of my skincare regimen for more than 6 months
. How do I use it? I only apply it on nights when I have extracted my blackhead/whitehead or popped my pimples. This cream comes in a surprising blue color. Unlike traditional moisturizing cream, you do not apply the Klairs Calming Cream all over the face. You only apply a small amount to targeted areas.

Q1. Why is the cream blue?
Guaiazulene, which is the key ingredient of the Blue Cream, is a plant-based component extracted
from camomile oil. It has a natural violet color, which gradually turns the cream into a gentle blue color after the blending process.

This cream designed to calm and soothe sensitive, or irritated skin.  When I use it the night before, my skin redness is reduced next day. Though it does not completely diminish the redness, it does significantly help to calm my skin irritations. When you rinse your face with water the next morning, you can still feel a thin protective layer of the product on your skin, almost like shielding your damaged skin from external environment. Sometimes if the affected area is still red in the morning, I will use Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream as my day moisturizer. I will allow the Calming Cream to absorb into the skin first before putting on CC Cream.

When I am lazy, I use Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream as a moisturizer at night. Since it is not as moisturizing, I like to apply a very generous amount all over my face. However, this result in my skin being a little sticky due to the protective layer of the cream. Therefore, this product is not recommend to be used all over the face in the daytime. Because of the protective layer that it creates on the skin, your skin will look somewhat shiny.
Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream contains 30 ml of product and has lasted me for 9 months. Since this product is only used when my skin is irritated or redness, I tend to use it only 3 to 4 times a month. I would repurchase this product as it does help to calm my skin redness and irritation. It is an affordable treatment cream that will be useful for those with skin sensitivity, breakouts and redness.

REVIEW: Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè

It comes with a box packaging
75 ml version
~AG~

Wrote about Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè a while back ago, and finally got around to trying it. While researching online on the must-buy beauty products from French pharmacies, Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè appears on almost all articles that I read. This French product is popular for being an affordable moisturizer that is a beauty staple for makeup artists and models. Embryolisse offers the Lait Crème Concentrè in a 30ml and 75ml packaging. This multi-function nourishing moisturizer retails for Euro 16.90 (S$28) for the 75 ml version. Been using this moisturizer for about a month now. So what are my thoughts about this highly raved French product?

This product claims that it can work as a moisturizer, makeup-primer and moisturizing mask. It is supposedly suitable for all skin types. The moisturizer comes in a squeezable foil packaging. The packaging reminds me that of a toothpaste. This packaging is not as convenient for traveling as it might be prone to leakage/spillage. The wide mouth of the packaging may also cause excess of product to be squeezed.
It comes with a squeezable packaging with an wide mouth

Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè works surprisingly well for Singapore's humid weather. I thought this French moisturizer would be too thick for the tropical climate. However, the moisturizer is absorbed quickly into the skin and does not heavy feel at all. The moisturizer has a light cream texture, and feels watery. My combination skin feels hydrated after application. Compared to Laneige Water Bank Essence, Lait Crème Concentrè is much more moisturizing. My skin gets especially dry when I travel, and Lait Crème Concentrè helps to soothe my dehydrated skin. My sensitive skin did not have any adverse effects from this moisturizer. No breakouts, no redness and no bumps were noticed. A win for this product.
The soft texture of the cream
Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè is more affordable than Laneige Water Bank Essence which costs S$44 for 60ml of product. 75 ml of the moisturizer can lasts me about 2 months. I cannot wait to stock up on Embryolisse Lait Crème Concentrè when I am in Europe. A highly recommended product to buy from European pharmacies. It will work well for those with combination/acne-prone/normal skin types.

REVIEW: Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser

This Sunday Riley Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser costs USD 45 (SGD 62). This is the most expensive facial cleanser that I have bought so far! I actually have this mantra (which AG always disagree with me) that if something is expensive, that means it must be good and effective. I purchased this Ceramic Slip cleanser out of curiosity to see whether an expensive cleanser actually does what it says. Ceramic Slip Clay Cleanser is targeted for those with normal to oily skin type. What attracted me to this cleanser, besides the many positive reviews and that it is Sunday Riley, is its clay and Vitamin C ingredients. I was hoping that these ingredients will help with my oily acne skin and reduce my large pores, and brighten my uneven skin tone. Sunday Riley claims that this skin-balancing cleanser will visibly tighten the appearance of pores. The French green clay and Morroccan rhassoul clay is supposed to remove pore-clogging, excess oil and impurities, without drying the skin. Neroli essential oil claims to balance and soothe the skin, while Vitamin C ester helps to brighten the skin.

Despite the hundreds of positive reviews on this product, it is not worth your money. I would describe this product as a wonderful basic cleanser with a not-so basic price tag.
It claims that it would tighten the appearance of large pores but I disagree, I can still see my large pores! And surprise surprise, my skin still looks uneven. The not-so-good thing about Sunday Riley Cleanser is that it does not smell that pleasant, but still tolerable for my nose. AG, on the other hand, cannot tolerate the strong scent. Secondly, before using this product, you must first shake it well before pumping it. The only two things I enjoyed about this product is that it deep cleanse my face without drying it out, and the pump makes it very convenient for a lazy user like me who hates squeezing out the product especially when I am half awake in the morning.
A bottle with 125ml of product took about 5 months to be used up. I wash my face twice a day with Ceramic Slip Cleanser, two pumps for each use. Honestly, I cannot tell the difference between this USD45 cleanser and USD10-15 ones. I would rather you save the money and get a more affordable cleanser which works equally as well, and spend more on eye cream, serum, moisturizer and sunscreen.

REVIEW: Brightening Laser @ DRX Clinic

~AG~
Doctor Tsu has been my trusted dermatologist for over two years now. I am a commitment-phobe, and usually not "loyal" to my hairstylists, dermatologists and other beauty therapist. So two years with DRX Clinic, specifically with Dr. Tsu, is a phenomenon.

The last time I saw Dr. Tsu was in Nov 2016 for my acne breakout after my trip to Italy, as I needed immediate help before my engagement photoshoot. Ever since then, I have not followed-up with him.
This time I decided to see him because it is about a month before the my day. My back acne scars and sun spots have been an issue for me. My back is one of the body parts in which I am very self-conscious about. While trying on my cheongsam, my wedding planner commented on my back acne pigmentation. Second instance was when I was trying on my evening gown and my fiancé commented on my back acne pigmentation also. Thirdly, while trying on a dress, my mom commented about it again. I thought that the Diamond Peel Back Acne Treatment @ My Cozy Room has helped with the pigmentation. But apparently not :( Time for a more dramatic intervention for my back acne pigmentation.
Ketoconazole cream to be used to cleanse the back area
The lightener cream to applied twice a day
Acne Spot Lotion to treat existing acne
During the consultation, Dr. Tsu mentioned that my back area was not bad at all. He said there was no need for oral medication. He advised on an body shampoo (2% Ketoconazole) to be used to cleanse the back area and to be left on for 2-3 minutes. Then a lightener cream (4% hydroquinone) to target the pigmentation and the acne spot lotion to treat active acne. The lightener creams costs S$106.80 and the ketoconazole cream costs S$10.70. Though, he said I would not see that much of a difference in a month's time. I told him that I wanted more visible results. He said for the laser treatment, it takes a few sessions to notice the difference. He said for the laser treatment, I might not see drastic difference, because I would only be able to do 3 sessions before my big day.
My back acne scars and pigmentation are quite obvious *cries*
The whole laser treatment took about 15 minutes. There was no need for topical numbing cream. The nurse clean the back area and then Dr.Tsu started the laser treatment. Compared to IPl hair removal, the laser treatment was less painful. This is coming for a person with very low pain tolerance. The procedure itself felt like static electricity, and I find it slightly ticklish. During the laser treatment, I commented to Dr.Tsu that I smell something burning. He said that was the smell of your body hair burning. Haha! This brightening laser treatment has no downtime and is not painful at all. My ultra sensitive skin did not have much redness. Dr. Tsu advised that the skin tends to get dry after laser treatment. He recommended that I apply body lotion to the back area after I applied the lightener cream.
Slight redness fter treatment
I will be going for my second laser treatment session in two weeks' time. Will keep you all posted.

NEW BUY: Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux

~AG~

The skin around my eyes area has been dry lately, since I have not using eye cream for awhile. Due to the occurrence of milia on my under eyes area, I have avoided any sort of eye cream. Please do not follow this skincare mistake of mine. It is important to hydrate your eyes area to prevent fine lines and tired looking eyes.

Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux is an Intense Smoothing Hydration Gel. Chanel claims it is the first moisturizing skincare with camellia micro-droplets. Micro Gel Yeux targets puffiness, dark circles and dehydrated fine lines.

Micro Gel Yeux contains:

- Camellia Alba OFA, exclusive lipidic extract, preserved in its purest form at the heart of the micro droplets. It boosts moisture and offers an intense smoothing effect for replenished skin.
- Camellia Alba PFA, which is the main ingredient of the Hydra Beauty Line, is developed from the camellia flower. It hydrates and maintain moisture levels of the skin.
- Blue Ginger PFA, a powerful antioxidant that protects skin from free radicals and reinforces its natural defense system.
- Micro Peptide has anti-fatigue properties to target against puffiness and dark circles.

This micro gel has an interesting appearance, it looks like it has glittery bits in it. The texture of this eye gel is light and cooling. This pricey eye gel (US$68) comes with 15 ml of product. This is the most expensive eye gel/cream that I have ever bought! You only need to apply a grain-sized amount for the undereye area.

I would have to use it for at least a month to give an honest review on whether it helps with my severe dark circles. Stay tuned for my review of whether Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Gel Yeux is worth to buy.

REVIEW: Oliva Forte Enchant for Skin, 4 Weeks After

~AG~
Ever since makeup artist extraordinaire, Shaun Lee, recommended this during my makeup trial. I decided to go out to buy it. He said he noticed significant difference in skin pigmentation after taking this supplement. This pricey oral supplement is targeted for skin health. It retails for S$89 for 60 capsules, and you can find it in Guardian and Watsons. Each capsule contains 200 mg of Olea europaea Extract and 50 mg of Alpha Lipoic Acid. The Olea europaea (Olive juice) Extract contains hydroxytyrosol, which is a powerful antioxidant. This formulation with Alpha Lipoic Acid is known to support antioxidant activities, and aids as a barrier against the sun. It helps improve skin moisture retention and the reduce the effects of premature aging. Oliva Forte Enchant also claims to reduce damage from UVA and UVB damage.
The most interesting study claims that Oliva Forte has 10 time the antioxidant potency of Vitamin C. How interesting! For more information, go to http://olivaforte.com/category/general
I have been using it for 4 weeks, one capsule daily. So far, I have not noticed significant improvement in my skin health, particularly to my skin pigmentations (acne scars and dark spots). I was hoping that Oliva Forte Enchant for Skin would help with the acne scars on my back. I would continue taking Oliva Forte for another 4 weeks and see whether there will be improvements then. *cross my fingers* Sometimes it takes a while for the effects of oral supplement to show up. Stay tuned for a follow-up review.

REVIEW: Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Pen

Handy Eye Treatment Pen
~AG~
Bought this Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Pen last year. Finally, tried it recently. This twist eye-roller pen is designed to perk up tired eyes. The cool metal ball claims to smooth fine lines and boost blood circulation. This best-selling Eye Treatment Pen claims to reduce puffiness and dark circles. The twist packaging allows you to control the amount you need and keeps the applicator more hygienic. This eye gel has a lightweight texture that claims to prevent "eye seeds" formation (milia). As with Crème Simon products, this Eye Treatment Pen does not contain parabens, oil, alcohol and silicone. It also contains many botanical active ingredients to brighten the eyes area.

Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Pen contains 2.5ml (0.08 fl oz) of product and costs S$25. It is pricey for a small eye gel pen. The good things about this product are that the eye gel is lightweight and the metal roller ball is cooling. The bad thing about Creme Simon Eye Treatment Pen is that they are stingy with the amount of eye gel. My Eye Treatment Pen lasted for less than a month, and I did not use it everyday! I was so surprised that the eye gel ran out so quickly, I kept twisting the pen in hopes that there will be more product. This eye gel does not go well with my under eye concealer. I noticed that my usual concealer will clump up together when I used this eye gel. A big No-No! This Eye Treatment Pen did not have enough product for me to judge whether it helps with my dark circles. For the puffiness, I feel that this eye gel did not do much for it.

I would not recommend this Crème Simon Multi-Benefits Eye Treatment Pen. The amount of eye gel in each packaging is too little for the price. Moreover, this Eye Gel did not mix well with my must-have under eye concealer. *thumbs down*

REVIEW: Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel

200 ml of cleansing gel that can lasts me for 6 months
 ~AG~
NEW BUY: Avene Cleanance Cleansing Gel

It has been four months since I started using Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel, and I am more than halfway through.

So what can I say about this Cleansing Gel for acne-prone skin?
Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel comes in a twist top packaging. The mouth of the twist cap is small so that there will be less chances of over-pouring of the cleansing gel. This cleanser is gentle for my skin. My ultra sensitive skin did not have any adverse reaction to this Cleansing Gel. This cleanser, designed for oily skin type, did not over-dry my skin as well. No skin tightness after facial cleansing. *thumbs up* This Avène foaming cleanser has a fresh oceanic scent that I enjoy. This cleanser claims to have mattifying properties that is supposed to regulate the overproduction of sebum. However, I did not particularly notice its mattifying effects. Overall, it has good cleansing properties.

In conclusion, Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel is a good cleanser for oily and acne-prone skin. For 200ml worth of cleanser, it should lasts me for at least six months. Thus, making its price tag of S$29.90 worth it! Will definitely recommend this Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel for those with oily or combination skin type. This is one facial cleanser that I will re-purchase without hesitation.

Q&A: Fresh Umbrian Clay Oil-Free Lotion

50 ml of product
Comes with a cap to protect the pump
~MG~
Q: How much did you buy Fresh Umbrian Clay Oil-Free Lotion for?
A: Bought it from Changi Airport Shilla Duty Free for S$58.60. It is a good idea to buy beauty products at the airport because it is tax-free.

Q: Why did you decide to try this Fresh Umbrian Clay Oil-Free Lotion?
A: Been wanting to try this Fresh Umbrian Clay Oil-Free Lotion for years. This lotion is designed for oily skin type. The Umbrian Clay claims to regulate sebum production and absorbs impurities from pores. Because I have oily T-zones, I thought it would help balance my skin. The fact that it is oil-free is also a plus.

Q: How long have you been using this lotion?
A: For about two months daily. I use this Fresh lotion in the morning only. At night, I switch to a more hydrating face moisturizer.

Q: What do you like about this product?
A: The pump packaging is very convenient. The plastic packaging is worry-free for traveling. This is lightweight lotion. It moisturizes and soothes my skin after application. In my honest opinion, it does help to regulate sebum production in my T-zones. Though my cheeks area felt tight after use. Compared to Fresh Rose Cream, my skin is less oily with the use of Fresh Umbrian Clay Lotion.

Q: What do you want to improve about this product?
A: This lotion can be too dry if you spend a large amount of time in air-conditioning rooms. In my experience, my cheeks area feel dry an hour after I applied the lotion in my air-conditioned office. If I know I will be taking a flight, I will use two pumps of lotion to better hydrate my skin especially the cheeks area. It does not help reduce blackheads or prevent pimples. I thought the clay ingredients would have helped with reducing blemishes.

Q: Would you recommend this lotion to your friends? A: Would not recommend this Fresh Umbrian Clay Lotion because it is too drying for my cheeks area. This oil-free lotion might work better for someone that has a truly oily skin type. My skin type is somewhat oily and combination skin.

Q&A: Nature Republic Ultra Fresh Jeju Carbonic H20 Cleansing Water

A large bottle of cleansing water. 510 ml bottle
~MG~
NEW BUY: Nature Republic Ultra Fresh Carbonic Water

Q: Why did you buy Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water?
A: I saw this Cleansing Water being recommended on Get it Beauty, a Korean beauty TV show. In Get it Beauty blind test, Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water won first place. It beat highly popular Bioderma Sensibio H20 to get the top rank.

Q: What do you like about Nature Republic Ultra Fresh Jeju Carbonic H20 Cleansing Water?
A: The affordable price! It costs me less than S$20 for 510 ml of cleansing water! Much more affordable than Bioderma H20 which cost S$40 for 500ml. Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water is 1/2 the price of Bioderma Sensibio H20. This Nature Republic Cleansing Water cleanses off my sunscreen, moisturiser, eye cream, serum and the dirt on my face well.

Q: How long have you been using Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water?
A: Started using this Cleansing Water in May, it has been 4 months. I use this Cleansing Water generously everyday, and I am not even half way done. I usually use 3 cotton pads to remove all the gunk on my face.

Q: Did your skin condition improved with the use of Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water?
A: My skin did not see any noticeable improvements after the use of this Cleansing Water. It did not brighten my skin tone nor tighten my pores. It works well to cleanse my face, but it does not have much skin conditioning properties. It does have some hydrating properties, as my skin does not feel tight after using it.

Q: How does Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water compare to other cleansing waters that you have tried?
A: Compared to La Roche-Posay Physiological Micellar Solution, Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water has a better cleaning properties. It is comparable to Bioderma Sensibio H20. Though, it is not fair to compare it to Bioderma Sebium H20, as the latter has anti-acne properties. Another thing to note, is that Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water is more scented than Bioderma Sensibio H20. Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water has a sweet floral scent.

Q: Would you repurchase this Nature Republic Carbonic Cleansing Water?
A: Even though I like its cleansing abilities, I would like my cleansing water to have anti-acne (antibacterial) properties. Though, if you do not have acne-prone skin, I would recommend this Nature Republic Cleansing Water to you.

REVIEW: Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion

300 ml of product
~AG~

Bought the Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion when it was on offer a few months ago. NEW BUY: Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion. Finally done with my bottle of Bioderma Sebium H20 and now on to this Cleansing Lotion. Bifesta Cleansing Lotion is popular in Asia because of the wide range available for different skin types. This Bifesta Cleansing Lotion is targeted for those with acne-prone skin. As mentioned in my previous post, Bifesta Cleansing Lotion is much more affordable than the Bioderma H20:
Bioderma Sebium H20 (250 ml) = S$26.90        --> $0.11/ml
Bifesta Cleansing Lotion (300ml) = S$16.90      --> $0.06/mL
** Bifesta Cleansing Lotion is almost half the cost of Bioderma Sebium H20.

The big question is, will Bifesta Cleansing Lotion replace my HG Bioderma Sebium H20?

My thoughts on Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion. Since Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion is designed for acne-prone skin, it contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial ingredients. It also contains absorbent hyaluronic acid that will improve skin's moisture retention, and leads to brighter and more supple skin. This Cleansing Lotion is also Hypoallergenic formulated, Allergy tested, Colorant-free, Fragrance-free, Paraben-free and Alcohol-free. Sounds perfect for a person with sensitive skin like me! After a few bad experiences with Japanese beauty products, I was hesitant to try another Japanese skincare products.
Lock cap to prevent spillage
The pump packaging makes it convenient to use. Though this pump packaging also results in the cleansing lotion being squirted everywhere. The pump dispense too much cleansing lotion for one cotton pad. The bulky packaging is not great for traveling, even though it has a lock cap to prevent spillage. After application of Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion, there is a slight sticky residue if you do not wash off your face immediately. With Bioderma Sebium H20, I did not notice any sticky feeling after use. With Bifesta Cleansing Lotion, it takes about 3 cotton pads to remove my sunscreen thoroughly. With Bioderma H20 Sebium, I typically only need 2 cotton pads. My sensitive combination skin initially did not have any adverse reaction to Bifesta Acne Care Cleansing Lotion. The first week that I used it, my skin did not have any allergic reactions to it. However, during the second week, I noticed small bumps appearing on my forehead and cheeks. I kept using it for a third week, and there were more bumps. Right then, I decided to discontinue using it. I was SO disappointed with this product!! Some ingredient in this Cleansing Lotion must have triggered an adverse reaction on my skin. After three weeks of daily use, there was no noticeable difference with preventing or treating of acne.

In my case, Bifesta Cleansing Lotion does not work as a good alternative to Bioderma. For those with ultra sensitive skin, I highly recommend Bioderma H20 Sensibio or Sebium instead. The affordable price tag is definitely the only Pro about this product. Sorry Bifesta Cleansing Lotion, you are out of my book!

REVIEW: Crème Simon Restorative Sleeping Mask

~AG~

Crème Simon is my recent favorite skincare brand. I <3 that their products are oil-free, paraben-free, silicone-free and alcohol-free. That sounds wonderful for those with sensitive skin like me. Its non-comedogenic products are great for acne-prone skin.

Crème Simon Restorative Sleeping Mask is a multi function skincare product. You can use it as an intensive overnight mask for a moisturizing and brightening effect. This Sleeping Mask also works as an emergency quick-fix mask. You can apply a thick layer of Crème Simon Sleeping Mask and let it penetrate the skin for 20 minutes, Then rinse or wipe off excess. For those with extremely dehydrated skin, you can combine the Sleeping Mask with Crème Simon Dermo-Hydrating Toner Mist and massage it all over your face for double hydration boost. For frequent travelers, you can use it as an inflight moisturizer on long-distance flights.Your skin will thank you for the hydrating treatment. Apparently, you can use this as a blemish treatment as well as it calms and treats pimples.

Essential Ingredients:
  • Sodium Hyaluronate is a hydrating molecule that is able to retain more water than any other natural substance. It has a smaller molecular size than the more well-known hyaluronic acid. IT can hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water. This ingredient helps in defending against environmental aggressors and premature aging
  • Activ-Fleur Complex is the signature ingredient in all Crème Simon products. It is a botanical elixir of 7 flowers and plants with proven brightening effects.
  • Rose, Iris and Jasmine's  pure concentrates to restore skin renewal and promote toxin elimination. These ingredients boost the skin's radiance and cell regeneration.
  • Wheat Oligosaccharides Complex brightens the skin by reducing skin pigmentation and inhibiting the cells from producing melanin.
  • Squalane is an naturally present molecule in your body. It is a moisturizing agent with anti-bacterial properties that is suitable for sensitive skin. Skin pigmentation, scars and age spots are repaired with this highly effective ingredient.
  • Aloe Vera is a hydrating and antioxidant agent that is rich in Vitamin C and B3. Popular for its soothing and calming effects on sensitive skin.
  • Trehalose is a powerful water-retention agent. It binds water to the skin to maintain optimal  moisture level.
  • Tocopherol Acetate (Vitamin E) retains moisture while protecting the top layer of the skin
This Crème Simon Sleeping Mask has a slight floral/herbal scent, which I adore. Compared to Laneige Sleeping Mask, Crème Simon Sleeping Mask's packaging is more hygienic and convenient. It comes in a squeeze tube packaging, where as Laneige Sleeping Mask comes in a tub packaging. I did not not enjoy applying Laneige Sleeping Mask because you had to use a spatula or your clean fingers to dip into the tub. Laneige Sleeping Mask had a thicker texture, and did not absorb as easily into the skin. This Crème Simon Sleeping Mask is not as thick or sticky as Laneige Sleeping Mask. With Laneige Sleeping Mask, you can literally feel a layer sitting on top of your skin. Crème Simon Restorative Sleeping Mask is not as rich, but still have decent hydrating properties. This Sleeping Mask does not cause any allergic reaction on my ultra sensitive skin. No noticeable redness, bumps or breakouts were seen! Yay!

To test the effectiveness of this product, I solely used this Sleeping Mask at night (no other moisturizer or hydrating product were used). A 20-cent amount was used for my whole face. There was no sticky or greasy feeling the next morning. My skin felt smooth and brighter. Crème Simon Restorative Sleeping Mask costs S$68 for 75 ml of product. In terms of pricing, it is not easy on the pockets. If you use this Sleeping Mask two or three times a week, a tube will lasts you at least six months. This Sleeping Mask is a good skincare product to have for those who sleep overnight with air conditioning and feel that their usual moisturizer is not hydrating enough. This Sleeping Mask will work great for sensitive, normal and combination skin types. Though, it might not be hydrating enough for those with dry skin type.

REVIEW: Laneige Sun Block Aqua+ SPF 35 PA++

~MG~

Bought this Laneige Sun Block Aqua+ Sun Block SPF 35 PA++ in Korea on May 2015 for about 25,000 KRW (approximately SGD 30). It took me about 6 months to finish using this Laneige sunscreen.
One important skincare tip that I follow which may sounds a bit weird coming from a girl with combination oily skin, I love moisturizing products! I place great importance in keeping my skin fully moisturized. Some people may find this extreme despite having oily skin, but I would use a moisturizing facial mist after cleansing my face and then continue with my skincare routine. For my day and night moisturizers, I would purposely find products with moisturizing properties as their main properties.
This Laneige sunscreen has a not-so-lightweight cream texture with a pleasant scent. My face, especially my T-zone, would get super oily and sometimes even sticky when I use this sunscreen. It can be a major horror for those girls who have bangs! When using this product, I would find myself needing to tie my hair up or pin my bangs away from my face because I just cannot stand it sticking to my oily face.
With that being said, this sunscreen would not be recommended for those living in hot, humid climate and for those with combination or oily skin. People living in dry and cool areas, and those with dry skin type who always appreciate more hydration for their faces, this product is for you! One last thing if I may add is that despite its very moisturizing properties, this sunscreen does not break me out. Thankfully!

REVIEW: DRX Clinic Journey Part 9

My skincare regimen steps
~AG~

This is an update of my skin condition. About a month ago, I stopped taking the oral medication, Spironolactone. Six weeks prior to discontinuing the medication, Dr. Tsu reduced my daily dosage by half. For the record, I was on Spironolactone for 10 months, taking two tablets once a day. Even after the discontinuation of Spironolactone, my skin has been relatively stable. There is the usual breakouts during the time of the month, but nothing too uncontrollable. Overall, I am confident with my skin again. My current skincare regimen:

Avène Cleanance Cleansing Gel
-- This cleansing gel by Avène works great for sensitive, combination skin. The fresh scent is wonderful. Plus, this foaming face wash does not dry out my skin.

Derma-RX Toner

-- My second most favourite product from Derma-RX product. It helps to keep my skin under control. Rich with AHAs, this toner maintains skin balance and gently exfoliates the skin.

Comodone Formula

-- This product is Cleo Beauty Hall of Fame 2015 Best Pore Reducer. Dr. Tsu highly recommended that I use this Comodone Formula twice a day. I only this Comodone Formula to my T-zones area, less than a pea-sized amount. Dr. Tsu said that Comodone Formula helps "softens" the whiteheads and blackheads. It contains natural fruit enzymes to keep sebum, whiteheads and blackheads under control.

Blemish Formula

-- On days where I think my skin is good, I skip the Comodone Formula and just apply this Blemish Formula. This botanical formula helps to decongest clogged pores and control excess sebum production. It also helps keep away acne-causing bacteria, and reduce any redness caused by breakouts.

Max-C
-- My favourite Derma-RX product. This is the one product from Derma-RX that I will highly recommend. You can feel it instantaneously tightens the pores. Max-C helps to brighten the skin tone by targeting premature aging and boosting the skin's immunity. This has become the one skincare product that I cannot live without!

Laneige Water Bank Essence

-- My highly-rated moisturizer, having gone through 3 bottles of this product, and the longest time I have been committed to a face moisturizer. It moisturizes well without any sticky feeling. Great texture and has a nice fresh scent.

Acne Spot Lotion

-- Targeted treatment for pimples, it contains antibiotic. It has a strong sulfuric scent that might be a turn-off for some people. This Acne Spot Lotion works well to treat emerging red pimples and also whitehead pimples.

Derma-RX Tinted Sunscreen
-- Horrible product that I am still using because I do not want to waste the $ spent. * thumbs down* This is one of the WORST sunscreen that I have ever tried. It creates an oily looking which is very unflattering. The one I have is the old version that has since been discontinued, but I cannot trust Derma-RX's capabilities in formulating sunscreen.
*** I will recommend going to Dr. Tsu at DRX Clinic for anyone that has long-term skincare issues. Even though going to a dermatologist is pricey, the skincare tips and advice provided by Dr. Tsu has been helpful in keeping my sensitive combination skin in check. On average, I spend about $120-$150 per month on consultations and Derma-RX products.
