FELT TIP EYELINER
Felt tip eyeliner is my FAVORITE eyeliner type. Basically, it is a marker-like eyeliner. It is easy to use and convenient to travel with. The biggest benefit of felt tip eyeliner is that it stays on, and is the most long-lasting formula. With a felt tip eyeliner, you do not need to sharpen it or carry an eyeliner brush with you for application. You minimize the number of beauty products and tools you carry, especially helpful when travelling. Out of all the eyeliner types, felt tip eyeliner are the least likely to smudge or smear. In my opinion, it is the most smudge-resistant formula. With that being said, there are many different types of felt tip eyeliners. Some have hard felt tip, while some have a more"flexible" brush tip. Some have super fine tip, while some have a thicker tip. Your go-to felt tip eyeliner depends on your makeup preference. Felt tip eyeliners are found to be able to create defined makeup looks as well as dramatic eye makeup. You are able to build up and layer on the product to increase the intensity of the eyeliner. It take some practice to master using the felt tip eyeliner, but it is worth the many tries. EVERY girl should have a felt tip eyeliner in her makeup bag!
Lancôme Artliner (US$30.50)
This is my FAVORITE eyeliner right now! #1! It has a very fine foam tip that allows for creation of natural eye makeup look. However, you can layer it on to create a more dramatic look. The eyeliner is safe to use on the waterline. It takes about ~7 seconds to dry, which is a bearable wait time. It stays on all day and does not smudge. However, on several occasions, I have noticed it flaking off when I wiped off with a tissue. Not waterproof but it is water-resistant. You have to shake the eyeliner if it gets "dry". Expensive at US$30.50 for an eyeliner but it is WORTH it! I will re-purchase this eyeliner.
Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner (US$20)
One of my friends raved about this Stila liquid eyeliner. She said this was the only truly smudge-proof eyeliner. It looks similar to my HG K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Eyeliner (see below), so let us do a comparison of it.
SIMILARITIES:
- Both are felt-tip eyeliners
- Retails for around $20
- Both eyeliner fade at the end of the day
- Minimal smudging to my lower eyelids
DIFFERENCES:
- Stila eyeliner has a more stiff felt tip compared to K-Palette
- Stila’s pigmentation is more intense
- Stila’s takes longer to dry - at least 30 seconds, K-Palette dries in less than 10 seconds
- Stila’s flaked when I use it on top on MAC Paint Pot
This eyeliner is not for people with monolids since it takes so long to dry. I would NOT re-purchase it because I love wearing cream eye shadows.
K-Palette 1 Day Tattoo Real Lasting Eyeliner 24h
THE GOOD
- Lasts all day on my oily eyelids
- The fine tip can draw thin or thick lines
- Safe for use on the waterline
- Does not smudge/slide to my lower eyelids
- Dries quickly upon application
- The non-waterproof version can be easily removed with lukewarm water and facial wash
- The eyeliner will fade at the end of the day, the pigment will not be as intense
- During the eye makeup removal process, the eyeliner will clump together which can get into the eye, and irritate it.
Marc Jacobs Beauty Magic Marc'er Precision Pen Waterproof Eyeliner (US$30)
THE GOOD
- The fine tip allows for a thinnest eyeliner application
- Stays on well, one of the most long-lasting eyeliner
- Takes about 5 seconds to dry
- Does not smudge
- VERY water-resistant. During crying sessions, this eyeliner was found to be resistant to the racoon eyes effect.
- The color tend to not be as pigmented when eye shadow is applied on top of it
- The fine tip brush can be "damaged" by the wear and tear of application so it would not be as fine. Mine became clumpy after less than 3 months of use.
- After subsequent use, the eyeliner will not be as inky after you applied a layer, you need to wait a while for the "ink" to flow down. It is like an ink pen that is running low on ink.
- EXPENSIVE! US$30 for an eyeliner.
The Face Shop Face It Extreme EX Bold Pen Liner (USD$22)
THE GOOD
- The hard tip makes it very easy to apply eyeliner with precision. For those that are new to felt tip eyeliners, a hard fine tip is easier to use than a flexible tip.
- Very pigmented, the color does not wear off throughout the day
THE BAD
- Smudged to my lower lids mid-day even after the use of eye shadow primer
- It takes longer to dry compared to Lancôme Artliner or Marc Jacobs Marc'er Eyeliner. About 12 seconds.
