Eyeliners Series 1: Comparison of Pencil Eyeliners

PENCIL EYELINER

~AG~

This is my least favourite type of eyeliner. Though it is the easiest to use, I find that it does not stay on well for my eyelids. My oily, single eyelids tend to smudge these pencil eyeliners to the bottom lids. In addition, you have to sharpen them to get a fine tip to line the eyes. With pencil eyeliners, it is difficult to create a defined eyeliner look because of the width of the pencil. Also, they do not work well for the waterline.

Because I like a very fine eyeliner application for everyday use, the pencil eyeliner is not suitable for me. I will recommend pencil eyeliner for those that are new to eyeliners, granted you do not have oily eyelids or monolids like me, because they require the least amount of skills and effort. Lastly, pencil eyeliners tend to be the most affordable type of eyeliners.

Revlon ColorStay Eyeliner

This is probably one of the first pencil eyeliners that I bought. I saw it featured in one of the magazines describing on how long-lasting it is. Since it is an affordable drugstore eyeliner, I decided to try it. This is a twist type of pencil eyeliner. It has a creamy texture and glides on easily. However, the staying power is awful. It smudges to my lower eyelids within two hours.

Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil

This was the first high-end eyeliner that I bought. The name mentions 24/7 which refers to it long-lasting and smudge-proof properties. However, this eyeliner did not last on my eyelids. It smudged badly and I ended up looking like a raccoon. It has a very creamy texture that glides one easily. You are supposed to wait 30 seconds before it sets to dry. Once it dries, it supposedly would not budge. Though, I beg to differ. Even with eye shadow primer, it still smudges after an hour. Overall, I will not recommend this Urban Decay eye pencil.
Kajal Eye Liner

Stila Kajal Eye Liner

I use Stila Kajal Eye Liner in Topaz (pictured above) to line the lower inner rims of eyes to create a wide-awake effect. Perfect for those mornings when you are sleep deprived. Glides on easily and its peach/flesh tone looks very natural. However, the staying power is awful. The liner smudges after an hour or two.

Milani Liquid Eye Liquid-Like Eye Liner Pencil, Brown - .01 oz
Milani Liquid Eye Liquid-Like Eye Liner

This is a gel pencil liner. It has a very creamy texture, creamier than Urban Decay 24/7. It is a drugstore brand that supposedly rivals UD 24/7 and Make Up Forever Aqua Eyes. Similar to UD 24/7, you have to allow eyeliner to dry for 15 seconds after application then it will set. It is supposed to last throughout the day. When I tried it, it lasted about 5 hours on the upper lids without any primer. On the waterline, it lasted even shorter, 3 hours only. However, I do find that Milani eye liner does stay on better than UD 24/7. Comparing the value for money, I rather recommend to Milani to those in the States.

NARS Larger Than Life Long-Wear Eyeliner

One of my favorite eyeliners. The shade Madison Avenue is a slate grey color. It has a slight blue tone and is not as dark. But it is suitable for everyday use.
It is the best long-wearing pencil liner. Most “long-wear” eyeliners (Milani Liquif, Urban Decay 24/7, Revlon Colorstay, even Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner) smudges to my lower lids in 2-3 hours, but NARS Long-Wear Eyeliner does not cause a raccoon eye effects. Though NARS claim it will lasts for 12 hours, it does start to smear on my upper eyelids after 8 hours (without eyeshadow primer). However, the smearing is less than that of Urban Decay 24/7 or Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner. Plus, it only smudges on my upper eyelids and does not transfer to my lower lids like the other liners.
It glides on easily, and yet is not creamy like Milani Liquif or Urban Decay 24/7. With Milani Liquif and Urban Decay 24/7, I find them too creamy so you have to sharpen often which is a waste of product. Also, there is no drying time - you don’t have to keep your lids closed to set it. The twist up liner and built-in sharpener is convenient for travelling. I will definitely recommend this eyeliner to you!

NEW BUY: Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Revitalising Gel-Lotion

~AG~

I am on the last few pumps of my REN Vita Mineral Moisturizing Cream. (Click link for my review: Ren Vita Mineral Moisturizing Cream Review). The next moisturizer that I will be trying is Jurlique Rose Moisture Plus Revitalising Gel-Lotion. This moisturizer was purchased last summer while I was in USA. I bought it from Sephora for US$47. It is expensive for a small jar of moisturizer, with a capacity of 50ml (1.7 oz). But nowadays, I tend to spend more on quality skincare products.

The reason chose this brand, Jurlique, is because of its natural skin care approach. Previously, I have tried my younger sister's moisturizer, and my skin did have not any adverse reaction to it. After my experience with having ultra sensitive skin, I understand that my skin appreciates more natural skin care products. Thus, the choice. This moisturizer has a gel consistency which is suitable for Singapore's humid weather. It also contains antioxidant properties that protects against environmental aggressors.

I hope this works for my sensitive combination skin, that I will not have any adverse reaction to it. Stay tuned for my review of this Jurlique Gel-Lotion!

Marie Claire: 20 Concealer Hacks Every Woman Should Know

Marie Claire: 20 Concealer Hacks Every Woman Should Know

1) If you use foundation, apply it first, and then apply your concealer.
If you apply your foundation first, you'll find that you don't need to use as much concealer. If you apply concealer first, however, you'll remove most of it while applying your foundation.

2) The most flattering way to apply concealer is to draw a triangle with the base under your eye and the point toward your cheek.
This shape not only conceals dark circles, but it also instantly creates the illusion that your face is lifted. Think of it as holding a flashlight against your cheek, shining the light right underneath your eye, and drawing the focus upward.

3) To prevent your eye shadow from falling off your lid and settling in the creases, prime your eyelids first with a dab of concealer.
If you can't justify spending extra on eye shadow primer, a dab of concealer works just as well.

4) When concealing a pimple, first use a green concealer, then cover the area with a concealer that matches your skin tone.
Cancel out a pimple's redness by applying green concealer with a clean brush to only the pimple (not the skin around it) to avoid spreading the bacteria. Then, use a cotton swab to dab on a high-coverage liquid concealer that matches your skin tone to camouflage the pimple. Blend it into the surrounding skin and finish with setting powder.

5) If you have a pimple on your chest or back that you need to conceal, cover the trouble spots with a concealer that matches your skin tone and then top it lasagna-style with a translucent powder.
Continue to alternate concealer and setting powder until the blemish is undetectable. The concealer will hide the blemish and the setting powder will prevent it from wearing off.

Eyeliners Series Introduction

Eyeliners

~AG~

In the next few days, I will start a series of posts regarding eyeliners. Over the years, I have tried more than 20 eyeliners. Some drugstore brands, some high-end brands. You name it, I have probably tried it. Bobbi Brown, MAC Cosmetics, Urban Decay, Stila, Lancome, NARS, Tony Moly, 24k Palette, Almay, Revlon, Milani, Eyeko and The Face Shop. All the different formulas I have tried - pencil, liquid eyeliner, felt tip, gel eyeliner.

A little introduction about my eyeliners experience.  I have single eyelids that tend to smudge eyeliners to the lower lids. So, I am always on the quest to find THE perfect eyeliner that would not smudge, is waterproof and is easy to use. Simple enough right? To find such a perfect eyeliner has been full of trials and errors. Now, I can narrow down my HG eyeliners to 3 eyeliners. Stay tuned to see which 3 eyeliners are my HGs!

NEW BUY: Tarte Pin-Up Girl Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette

~AG~

I was finally able to get my hands on this Tarte Pin-Up Girl Amazonian Clay Blush Palette. Thanks to my boyfriend for getting the last piece of blush palette from Sephora Great World City! The week before I had looked for this blush palette at several Sephora stores in Singapore such as at Ion, Takashimaya and Suntec City, but I was told that it was sold out. Desperately looking for it, I even contacted Tarte official to ask whether they were producing more of this blush palette. It was no longer available on tarte.com, Sephora.com, Ulta.com and Beauty.com. The blush palette was only available through re-seller, which I did not feel comfortable purchasing from.

Le t me tell you the funny story on how the Tarte blush palette found its way into my possession. My boyfriend and I happened to be at Great World City. At that time, I had lost any hope of finding the Tarte blush palette because the salesperson at Sephora had told me that it was sold-out citywide. I was shopping by myself while my boyfriend went to the ATM. After I was done shopping, I happened to see Sephora and decided to pop there to verify whether all the Tarte blush palette were truly sold out. While heading to the Tarte section, I noticed someone familiar at Sephora. Guess who it was? My boyfriend! He had unexpectedly gone to Sephora to also check whether the Tarte blush palette was available. What a funny coincidence! We both think so alike! Anyway, when I opened the Tarte drawer, there wasn't any blush palette left. But turns out, my boyfriend at the last piece of blush palette in his hands. I was so HAPPY and EXCITED! It was like a won a lottery or something :)

This blush palette contains 5 shades (Breathless, Embraced, Whimsy, Bashful and Irreplaceable) of the Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush for S$59. This is one of the best beauty purchases EVER! It is totally worth the S$59! I own a Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush and they are SO good. Their blushes are highly pigmented and long-lasting. So to own a blush palette from Tarte is a GREAT investment! I get to play around with the various blush shades, and wear them according to my mood. How FUN!

REVIEW: Redken Diamond Oil Conditioner

~AG~

Redken Diamond Oil Conditioner has been my go-to conditioner for about a month now. So here is my review on this expensive conditioner. I purchase it at AMK Venus Beauty for $22.90. This is probably the priciest conditioner that I have ever bought.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I was looking for a more hydrating conditioner to use while using my anti-hair loss shampoo. http://beautyloverssisters.blogspot.sg/2014/12/new-buy-redken-diamond-oil-conditioner.html

Everyday, after I shampoo with Dae Gi Meo Ri Vitalizing Shampoo, I apply  a 50-cent (quarter) coin amount.  The conditioner is applied to the bottom half of my hair, concentrating on the ends. I leave it on for 2-3 minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.

For some reason, whenever the term "oil" is used, I will assume that the product will be too greasy for my liking. The conditioner is a cream texture, like many other hair masks or deep conditioners. It is absorbed easily into the hair. When I rinse it off with cold water, I find that I do not have to rinse as long as other conditioners to get if off. My hair does not feel heavy after using this conditioner. It is surprisingly light for a heavy-duty conditioner. After using it for some time, I do find that it helps disguise my split ends. Even thought the use of anti-hair loss shampoo such as Dae Gi Meo Ri Vitalizing Shampoo is supposed to cause my hair to be dry, I find that I do not have such problem with the help of Redken Diamond Oil Conditioner. It keeps my frizzy hair somewhat in control, and I do find that my hair is smoother because of it.

Overall, I will re-purchase this conditioner because of how easily it rinses off and that it does not weigh down my hair. However, I will not buy it from Venus Beauty anymore. I found that Beauty Language and British Essentials retails it at a much more cheaper price @ $17-19.

Review: My Beauty Diary Aloe Mask

~AG~

My Beauty Diary is one of my FAVORITE sheet mask. It is affordable and my skin reacts well to it. The skin around my cheeks area was feeling dry and rough. So, I decided to put on a sheet mask to hydrate my skin. I decided to go for the Aloe Mask because on the packaging it states for moisturizing and soothing. I cannot remember how much I purchased it for, but I bought this single sheet mask while in Taiwan. The beauty stores in Taiwan offers you to pick and choose single sheet masks which is a GREAT idea. You get to try many different brands and types, without investing in buying a whole box. A single My Beauty Diary sheet mask usally costs less than S$2 (~US$1.50).

For some reason, this sheet mask does not fit to my face nicely. The sheet mask around the nose and chin areas were too big. I also found that the design around the eyes area was not a good fit too. If I place the mask higher up on my face, it will cover my lower eyelids.

My Beauty Diary sheet mask is always full of essence, which I LOVE!! I usually leave on my sheet mask for 30-40 minutes before going to bed. My skin will usually feel hydrated and softer the next morning after use. However, for some reason, this Aloe sheet mask did not hydrate as well as the Q10 or Natto sheet mask. The next morning, I find that the skin around my cheeks area were still a little dry. Overall, my skin was more moisturized but I have seen better results with the other My Beauty Diary sheet mask.

For those that are looking for a noticeable improvement in skin hydration and texture, I would recommend the My Beauty Diary Natto and Q10 sheet mask instead.

Nature Republic Vitamin C Facial Mist

~MG~

AG got me this facial mist while on her trip to Seoul. I already used up one bottle of it but am still trying to finish up hers because she also bought one for herself, which later she decided not to use because her skin is rather sensitive.

Using it day and night, this mini bottle of 50ml only lasted me for about 1 month.

I kinda feel this facial mist is not fit to be called a 'Natural Vitamin Facial Mist' because its scent is overpowering which might scare sensitive skin people (hint hint *AG!*). Well... even to not-so sensitive skin person like me, I feel that the scent is abit too much. Sometimes while spritzing it on my face, I feel that the strong scent will make me break out instead because it smells too much and has an non-natural and non-gentle scent. So far, it hasn't break me out! Thankfully!

What I only like about this product is its mini size and the plastic bottle which makes it perfect for travelling.

Would I repurchase it? That would be a no, because I prefer a more natural facial mist, even in its scent, and one that has better moisturizing benefit.

NEW BUY: Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream_EX, White Plus Renew Original Essence & Water Bank Mineral Skin Mist

What I actually bought
Look at the freebies!

~MG~

What meant to be a short stop to Laneige turned out to be abit more. I (really) was just planning to buy a new tub of the 'Water Bank Gel Cream_EX' since mine was almost empty.

A few days before stepping inside the Laneige boutique store, I had been researching for a brightening serum which I want it to help with my acne scars. Just a little FYI, whenever I have acne, it will ALWAYS leave me with some beautiful scars. I read pretty good reviews about the Laneige's 'White Plus Renew Original Essence ', which is one of the brand's 3 global best sellers! I just had to get it because I can feel it calling for me! Laneige calls the product an essence but its really the same as serum.

Just when I was about to pay for the 2 items, the oh-so-thoughtful saleslady shared to me that by spending $150, I would be able to receive the cute blue beauty pouch with the 4 generous samples. The samples consisted of 2 global best sellers, 'Water Sleeping Pack_EX' and 'Water Bank Water essence_EX'; and the 'Time Freeze Intensive Cream' and 'Time Freeze Eye Serum'.

So... I decided to get the mini 'Water Bank Mineral Mist' which is perfect for travelling because its mini and its plastic. AG just bought the full size of the mist in Shilla Duty Free Shop at Changi Airport, and I tried spritzing it and it's pretty good!

Anyway, I can't wait to try out the essence! I think I might just start using it tonight!
I will be back to write the reviews of the products that I purchased!

p.s.: For those who are planning to buy Laneige's products, may I suggest to just shop in their boutique stores and not at their booths in the department stores because from my experiences, the salesladies in their boutiques are far more helpful and generous in giving out the lovely samples!

CNP Laboratory Anti-Pore Black head Clear Kit

~AG~

Saw this product on dolleiseah's instagram. See link for post.
http://instagram.com/p/yhn72ysQo4/
She mentioned that CNP Laboratory Anti-Pore Black head Clear Kit removed her blackheads effortlessly, and also added that it was not a sponsored post. I was instantly interested about the product. A few days before, I was just staring at my blackheads and figuring what I should do with it. The only sure method of removing blackheads thoroughly is by extraction, which I do not enjoy because of how painful it is. If I try to do extraction by myself at home, I always end up with pimples on my nose the next day.

Previously, I have used Biore Pore Pack to remove blackheads but it is not as effective. I find that it removes my dead skin cells and sebum more than the blackheads. I have also tried using The Face Shop Volcanic Clay Black Head Heating Gel Mask. But I do not see significant removal of blackheads. I needed a product that will COMPLETELY remove blackheads without any harsh procedures or chemicals.

I did some research online regarding CNP Laboratory. There are not a lot of reviews on CNP Laboratory products. But I did found out that CNP Laboratory products came about from a dermatologist/aesthetic clinic, CNP Aesthetic Clinic, in Korea. On its website, it says that CNP was created in 2000, and was created by 50 dermatologists. Sounds impressive doesn't it?

So, I decided to look for CNP Laboratory Anti-Pore Black head Clear Kit at a Guardian store. What I found out is that not all Guardian stores carry CNP Laboratory products. When I was at AMK Hub Guardian, CNP Laboratory products were not available. The helpful saleslady at that Guardian told me that CNP Laboratory products are available at Toa Payoh Guardian.

Last night, coincidentally, I was at Toa Payoh. I stopped by at the Guardian store and found CNP Laboratory products. Yay! I was so happy when I found it. They were selling the Anti-Pore Black head Clear Kit for $14.10. It comes with a black head clear mask 1 , a special cotton bud and pore tightening mask 2. Each kit comes with 3 sets which can be used for three times. Guardian is having an offer on this product. Buy 2 and get 1 free. One kit costs $14.10. I was really really tempted to buy the black head clear kit. But I decided to hold on the purchase till I use my Face Shop Volcanic Clay Black Head Heating Gel Mask more.

Please check out their Singapore website for more details.

AG Skincare Regimen

~AG~

I have sensitive, combination skin with pimples on the T-zone areas. Ever since I moved back to Singapore from the States two years ago, my skin has become super super sensitive. Anything and everything that I put on my face had adverse reactions. Bumps appeared on my skin whenever I tried anything new. Products that worked well for my skin in the States, did not work for my skin in Singapore.

Now, my skin has somewhat stabilised, and I am back to trying more products. However, my cheeks area can get pretty dry when I travel to countries with colder climates or when I spend extended time in an air-conditioned room.

So far, this skincare regimen has worked well for my skin.
My skincare regimen is pretty simple compared to my sister. My whole skincare regimen probably takes 10 minutes at the most. Hahaha :p
See link for MG's skincare regimen MG Skincare Regimen

Step 1: Bioderm Sebium H20 (not pictured above)
This is the BEST beauty product ever! I use it everyday to remove my sunscreen and other impurities thoroughly. I <3 how it makes my skin feel fresh. Double cleansing is a must in Singapore's humid weather, where excess sebum are produced. Bioderma Sebium H20 Review

Step 2: Michael Todd Honey & Oat Deep Pore Gel Cleanser
My good friend, Stephanie, bought this cleanser for me. She said that it works great for sensitive skin without over drying it. For my review of it, please click link Michael Todd Cleanser Review
I have been using it for over six months, and can only say good things about it. The only downside is that this product can only be purchased in the United States.

Step 3: REN Vita Mineral Active 7 Eye Gel (For day)
This a light eye gel that supposedly reduces dark circles and puffiness. I have only been using it for over a month. I will give a more in-depth review when I have used it for a more extended time.

Ole Henriksen Truth is in the Eyes Peel (For night)
This eye treatment is not worth buying. The only reason I am using it is because it is expensive and such a waste to throw away. Even after three months of use, my milia, which the saleslady claims it will help get rid of, did not go away. Click link for my detailed review of this product Ole Henriksen Truth Review

Step 4: LancĂ´me Advanced Genefique
I have been using this for over two months, and I have to say that I LOVE it! It may be premature, but I feel that my skin is more even and softer after use. Even my boyfriend commented that my skin has improved. This has become my new skincare staple. I did a short review of it. Please click the link below for more details. Lancome 7 Days Challenge Results

Step 5: DR -
An antibiotic for my pimple. I apply it twice a day on my whitehead pimples.

Step 6: Laneige Water Bank Essence (older version)
I like this product. Do note that this is the older version, but I am sure the new version is just as good. It moisturises my skin well enough, and it does not feel sticky. Plus, my skin do not have any adverse reaction it it. It smells very refreshing oceanic. Review Laneige Water Bank Essence

Step 7: SunPlay Skin Aqua UV Silky Smooth Milk SPF 50+++
This is my second bottle of this product. It works well as an everyday sunscreen. It is lightweight and does not cause my skin to breakout. Also, it does not cause a white overcast upon application. Plus it is price-friendly for my pocket. Please clink link for my review on it. SunPlay Skin Aqua Review

Q&A: Hera CC Cream

Comes with a hygienic pump packaging

The actual amount MG uses on her face

~MG~

When did you start using Hera CC Cream?
MG: August 2014

Why did you buy it?
MG: Because BB Cream is too thick for me, and I wanted something lighter for my skin. I wanted a product that will brighten up my dull skin. I heard of Hera CC Cream from Youtube guru, meejmuse. She mentioned that it was the best CC Cream that she tried, and she always said that Hera is a brand that is worth buying.

How much did you buy it for?
MG: Around US$30. It is slightly more expensive than Etude House but trust me, it's really worth the money because you only need a small amount for the whole face. For me, I only need half a pea size and it's enough to cover my (big round) face.

What can you say about the product?
MG: It is THE CC Cream to try! Usually, I do not get compliment on my skin. But after using it, I enjoy receiving some [compliments]. It really makes your skin looks glowing and dewy (just like the Korean celebrities!). So for those with oily skin, or have the fear of having oil pan on the face, this will not be the product for you. Also, please take note that this product has low coverage so you will need to use your concealer to cover up any imperfections after applying this CC Cream. For those seeking for more coverage, BB Cream may be the better choice for you.
The shade that I use is 01 (Pink Beige), which is the lightest shade. I have a relatively fair skin with pink undertones. This CC Cream only comes in two shades. The other shade is for darker skin tones.

How do you apply it?
MG: After applying my primer, I will squeeze out half a pea size of the CC cream and apply bits of it on my forehead, cheeks, under-eyes, nose and chin areas. After that, I will slowly tap on the product and blend it out.

What do you dislike about it?
MG: Hmmm, that's a tough question! I have nothing but love for it. But if I need to point out 1 dislike, I would say that I don't really fancy the product size. It's abit too big, I don't think I can ever used it up! Perhaps, Hera should size it down so that it will be more affordable.

Do you experience any allergic reaction or breakout after using it?
MG: None! (Yeah!)

Would you recommend it?
MG: Definitely! In fact, I already recommend it to my friend and she too loves it now!

REVIEW: Korres Greek Yoghurt Moisturizing Face Cream

~AG~

I am a big fan of yoghurt. I love the taste of it and enjoy its health benefits. So a year ago, while browsing through Sephora in the States, I saw this Greek Yoghurt Moisturizing Face Cream (US$36). Korres is known as a brand that uses natural ingredients, so I decided to try their product to see whether it works for my then ultra sensitive skin.

On the packaging it says: "Ultra-soothing, non-greasy cream brings immediate hydration and comfort to dehydrated skin. " The Greeks use yoghurt as a remedy to soothe and nourish skin as it contains plenty of proteins, minerals, and vitamins. This Korres Greek Yoghurt Moisturizing Face Cream contains yoghurt, wheat starch, natural Vitamin E, Olive oil concentrate, and Macadamia nut oil.

In my previous post, I mentioned that I used the Korres Greek Yoghurt Moisturising Face Cream on my recent trip to China. See link below:
http://beautyloverssisters.blogspot.sg/2015/01/korres-greek-yoghurt-moisturizing-face.html

What can I say about Korres Greek Yoghurt Moisturizing Face Cream?

1) It feels sticky upon application but it is absorbed well into the skin. My skin feel soft and smooth afterwards. It does not make my skin feel greasy.

2) It kept my skin well moisturised during my trip to China during its Winter season. My skin did not feel tight at all. In comparison, my Ren Vita Mineral Moisturizing Cream is not hydrating enough for the cold and dry Winter weather.

3) When I put my SunPlay Skin Aqua sunscreen on top of Korres Greek Yoghurt Moisturising Face Cream, it does not go on well. There will be some flakes. It seems that Korres Yoghurt Cream does not "mix" well with my sunscreen. Previously, I had no such problem with my other moisturisers REN Vita Mineral Cream or Laneige Water Bank Essence.

4) My skin did not have any adverse reaction to it. I used it for four days, day and night. No visible bumps or redness appeared during that time.

5) I like the texture of the cream. It does not feel ultra rich.

6) The scent of the cream is pleasant. The yoghurt-scent is there but it is not too overpowering.

For now, I will only use the Korres Face Cream at night. In conclusion, I would not re-purchase Korres Yoghurt Moisturizing Face Cream because I cannot use it with my favourite sunscreen, SunPlay Skin Aqua.
