NEW BUY: Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask

~AG~

Bought Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask from Shilla Duty Free for S$90.80. This is one of the priciest masks that I have ever purchased. This clarifying sleeping mask is designed to detoxify and nourish the skin throughout the night. This sleeping mask is to be used 2 to 3 times a week. You use it as the last step of your nighttime skincare routine.

What attracted me to this Sulwhasoo Mask is that it has Sulwhasoo’s JadesphereTM technology which delivers the power of skin-benefiting jade. Circular jade capsules help spread the nourishing components more efficiently. Jade provides intensive overnight skincare and helps remove skin impurities, leaving your skin looking smooth and immaculate when cleansing in the morning.
Since discovering the use of jade roller in skincare, I been trying to look for a sleeping mask to pair it with. This Sulwhasoo Radiance Energy Mask seems like the perfect product to pair with my jade facial roller. Hope this Energy Mask helps to brighten my skin tone and achieve a more radiant complexion. This is essential especially when my skin has been "harmed" by constant late nights and traveling.

NEW BUY: Dr Jart+ Rubber Mask Firming Lover

 ~AG~

Saw this revolutionary mask from Dr. Jart+ a while back. Sephora Singapore is selling it for S$17. It is pricey for a single use mask. Dr. Jart Rubber Mask is supposed to soothe and improve skin texture. The Rubber Mask prevents active ingredients from evaporating. This two-system mask contains an ampoule pack which berries (strawberry, raspberry, blueberry) extracts to increasing skin elasticity by supplying rich nutrients. Rubber mask sheet contains Red seaweed extract X algin to deeply moisturize skin and keep skin feeling moist all day. Derived from algae, the rubber mask reacts with calcium to cool and calm the skin, while actives cling to moisture to maximise benefits.

My brother bought this Dr. Jart Rubber Mask Firming Lover when he went to Korea. He said it is a popular skincare mask, according to the Koreans. I cannot wait to try it and see how the rubber mask will feel like on the skin. Stay tuned for my review.

NEW BUY: Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream in Tube Form

~AG~

This Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream is a favorite of MG. She has gone through over 3 bottles of Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream. She usually applies this blue cream after popping her pimples. Now, the Midnight Blue Cream comes in a tub version. This packaging makes it more hygienic for application. A 60ml of tub costs S$37. MG purchased it from WishTrend Shopee store, as they were having an offer. I also bought one tub of the Midnight Blue Cream for myself.
Previously, I had tried MG's Midnight Blue Cream when we were traveling together. This Calming Cream does help to reduce redness and irritation. Since my skin can get sensitive at times, this Calming Cream would be a good product to have in my beauty arsenal. My cheeks tend to have some redness when it is irritated/dry. Hope this Calming Cream will help the redness and bumps I have on my cheeks area recently.

REVIEW: KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch Acai Berry

~AG~

Bought KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch Acai Berry from Shilla Duty Free. It was selling for $27 for 10 pairs. They were having a promotion, 10% off Korean products at Shilla Duty Free. At the end, it costs S$2.43 for each pair of eye patch.

Actually have never heard of this brand. After some reading, I found out that KoCoStar is a South Korean brand that is known to have mask series that can be used from head to toe. They have nail and hand pack, feet pack, lip mask, sheet mask and eye patch. There was a selection of Tropical Eye Patch to chose from: Pitaya (Dragonfruit), Mango, Coconut, Papaya.

Since Acai Berry is known for its antioxidant properties, I decided to try it. The Eye Patch contains natural fruit extract that gives the hydrogel its color. This hydrogel eye patch is more translucent compared to Petitfee Gold EGF Eye Patch. What I noticed instantly about KoCoStar Eye Patch is that it is not as soaked with essence compared to Petitfee. KoCoStar feels relatively dry when I removed it from the packaging. The Petitfee Eye Patch tends to slide down the eye area since it is drenched with essence. But KoCoStar Eye Patch stays on pretty well.  The KoCoStar eye patch is much longer compared to Petitfee, thus covering a larger area of the under eyes.

After using KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch for 15 minutes, my undereye area feels cooling. I think it would have been more refreshing if I had put the Eye Patch in the fridge before use. On KoCoStar's website, they encourage the Eye Patch to be used daily but I am rather lazy about it. Since I use it once a week only, I cannot tell whether the Eye Patch helps to brighten the under eye area.

Overall, I would purchase other KoCoStar Tropical Eye Patch to try as it is rather affordable. Maybe I would try the Dragonfruit Eye Patch next. Since each pair is individually packed, Kocostar Eye Patch makes it great for traveling.

REVIEW: Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Brightening

The set of Perfecting Cushion
 ~AG~

Bought this Sulwhasoo Perfection Cushion Brightening last year when I was in Seoul, Korea. It retails for KRW 65,000 (S$78) there. The set comes with 1 x Cushion Brightening and 1 x Cushion Refill. This Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion has a brightening effect. It contains magnolia extract and Pearlescent Complex to give radiance to the skin. The cushion evens and brightens the skin for 12 hours. Sulwahsoon Perfecting Cushion Brightening contains Licorice Purifying Water that hydrates the skin and helps promote a translucent look. This cushion has a special oil-capture system to control excess oil and gives the skin a nice satin finish.

This is the Cushion that my makeup artist, Shaun Lee, used on my face for the wedding day. He mentioned that Sulwhasoo Cushion Brightening is great because it would not clog the pores. This Cushion has light to medium coverage. For those that prefer more coverage, you can try Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion EX. iShop Changi is selling it for S$72.20. The duty free at the airport is a great place to buy cosmetics at competitive prices.

The great thing about this Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion is that it comes in 7 shades to match varying Asian skin tones. The saleslady at the counter matched my skin tone to Shade 21 Medium Pink. For reference, I am Urban Decay Shade 3.0 and Bourjois Vanille 52.  I was afraid that this Sulwhasoo Cushion might cause a white or grey cast on my skin, as my previous experience with  banila co. and The FaceShop Cushion has been unfortunate. Fortunately, this shade matches well to my warm medium skin tone. This Sulwhasoo Cushion is great on days when I need something to brighten up my complexion. On days when I do not have enough sleep, I like to apply this on my face to give a nice radiance to my dull complexion. The texture of the Cushion is very light and does not feel like anything on the skin. I would still apply a concealer for my under eyes area and blemishes when necessary. It has a decent staying power and does not melt off in Singapore's humid weather. On normal days, primer is not required to have the Cushion stay on all day. Though for days when I will be outdoor, I would apply primer as a precaution.
Typical packaging of a Cushion

For special occasions, I would not use this Sulwhasoo Cushion as a foundation because I prefer more coverage. Even though my wedding makeup artist did use Sulwhasoo Cushion as my base makeup (as he is truly a makeup extraordinaire), his magic hands made my makeup stayed on all day. Overall, this Cushion is good to have in your beauty arsenal when you need a quick touch-up. This product is available in 7 shades to match different Asian skin tones. With that being said, one cushion will lasts for a long time, as the puff dispense minimal product. Highly recommend this Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion Brightening for those who wants a natural radiant glow.

REVIEW: COSRX Clear Fit Master Patch

~MG~
Unlike the COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch, this new version only comes in 1 size (10mm). Each pack comes with only 18 patches. The Acne Pimple Master Patch has 3 different sizes and 24 patches in one pack. Both versions cost the same, around US$5 (S$7). However, you can find it for cheaper on websites such as Shopee or Qoo10.

The idea of the Clear Fit Master Patch is to use it during the daytime, because it is thinner than the original acne pimple master patch. The Acne Pimple Master Patch is thicker and has a harder plasticky texture, while the Clear Fit Master patch has a more smooth and flimsy plastic texture. Since the Clear Fit Master Patch has a thinner texture, it will look almost nothing on your skin.

On days where I need to look more presentable but still want to cover up my acne, I will use the Clear Fit Master Patch. When you use the Clear Fit Master Patch, it is less noticeable. People would only notice it at a closer distance. From afar, they would not be able to tell that you stick something on your face. I even got people asking me whether I put any makeup over it because it looks natural like my skin tone which I did not at all. It really does look that natural on your skin.

I like that both versions come in similar resealable packaging which helps to keep it hygienic. The slim packaging makes it handy to slot it into your handbag. I actually always carry the patches in my bag, for just-in-case moments. Clear Fit Master Patch has the backing plastic sheet pre-cut, so that you can peel off the patch without creasing the edges. Since the Clear Fit Master Patch is thinner, it is actually easier for the edges to be crinkled when you peel it off especially if you have long nails. The backing plastic pre-cut sheet just makes it more convenient to peel off the patches without damaging the edges of the patch.

If you ask me whether I prefer the new version or the older one, I would say no. I like both versions. I still continue to stock up both patches because I feel the Acne Pimple Master Patch does a better job in absorbing the pus/whitehead of the acne, and I like how it comes in 3 different sizes as acne varies in sizes. On areas that has more contours and have plenty of movements, (like laugh line, nose and mouth areas, jaw lines), the Clear Fit Master Patch will stick on better than the Acne Pimple Master Patch.

Final note: always remember to replace the patch once it becomes white and puffy from the serious extraction because it would not be able to stick onto the skin well when it is puffy.

For the Love of Sheet Masks

~AG~
Sheet masks are an essential part of my skincare routine. This single-use sheet mask helps to soothe and add moisture to the skin. The first brand that ignited my love of sheet mask was My Beauty Diary, a Taiwanese brand that has a wide range of sheet mask for different skin concerns and needs. During my university days in the States, I would put on a face mask after a long day at school and work. A box of sheet masks costs about S$12-16, and a single mask costs about S$1.50. This is one of the most affordable sheet masks in the market. My recommended series from My Beauty Diary are: Aloe Vera and Natto. The sheet masks are drenched with serum and your skin will feel instantly moisturised after application.

innisfree offers a range of sheet masks. I have used:
1) My Real Squeeze Masks (S$2). A triple layered sheet mask with freshly squeezed juice of plants or fruits. My Real Squeeze Mask offers 16 different types to try - Rose, Rice, Green Tea, Aloe, Kiwi and etc. For those who are more budget conscious, My Real Squeeze Mask is a good way to try mask for various skin concerns. The Face Shop and Nature Republic offers similarly priced sheet masks, but they are not as memorable.

2) Skin Clinic Mask (S$3) is made of 100% natural cotton sheet and it is mineral oil-free, colorants-free and animal ingredients-free.
3) Second Skin Mask Range (S$7-8) is made of fermented soyabean sheet that feels like hydrogel. I have tried the Nourishing and Soothing sheet mask.
This a new discovery for me. LuLuLun Daily Face Mask costs about S$7-9 for a 7-pack sheet mask. It also comes in a pack with 30-pieces face mask. The one that I tried LuLuLun Daily Facial Mask Extra Moisturising. Though the sheet mask is not as drenched with essence, my skin feels hydrated and soft after use.You are supposed to use it daily for seven days, but I am usually too lazy for that. It is a good skincare boost when your skin is feel tight and tired.
Leaders Insolution Mask from South Korea is a popular sheet mask brand. The ones I tried was the Collagen Lifting Skin Renewal Mask, AC-Dressing Skin Clinic Mask and Aquaringer Skin Clinic Mask. The one that I use most often is Collagen Lifting Skin Renewal Mask as my skin has been on the drier side lately. The sheet mask is fully drenched with essence and helps to restore moisturize. A single mask costs about S$4.00. This is not as affordable as My Beauty Diary and innisfree.
Last but not least, is my highly-rated Mediheal Mask. One of my Korean friends said this is one of the best-selling sheet masks in Korea. The Collagen Impact Essential Mask is my ultimate favorite sheet mask. It soothes and moisturizes my tired skin. Whenever my skin feels dry, I would apply the sheet mask. This Mediheal Collagen Mask is fully drenched with essence. Even after applying it for 20 minutes, the sheet mask is still soaked with essence. I have yet to try the other mask from Mediheal.

REVIEW: COS-RX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser

~MG~

Bought COS-RX Low pH Good Morning Gel Cleanser in Aland during my previous trip to Seoul last April. I heard so much rave about this cleanser online that I just had to get it. It retails for 8,500 Korean Won, which is approximately S$10. This gentle cleanser has a low PH formula, a PH value of 5, that would not strip your skin of its natural oils. It contain purifying botanical ingredients to gently cleanse the skin.

This cleanser has a rather strong tea tree oil scent which reminded me of like the tea tree oil cleanser that I have used back in Secondary School. Users like it for its gentle BHA ingredient but I just did not see the exfoliating effect on my skin. I thought it would help to deep clean my pores and remove all the gunk, but I was sorely disappointed.

The gel cleanser comes in a squeeze packaging with a cap. However, I have some issues with the packaging. The gel consistency of the cleanser is too liquid-y, thus it tends to squeeze out too much product. The consistency and packaging of the gel cleanser is problematic for a frequent traveler like me. Whenever I bring this cleanser on my trip, it leaks too much of the product. I brought this gel cleanser on three trips, on my last trip about half of the product leaked out of the packaging. I was so frustrated with that.

I use COS-RX Morning Gel Cleanser twice a day, morning and night. It lathers too well, a first for me. The cleanser becomes too foamy. Sometimes when I wash my face, I can blow out huge bubble from my nose because the foam gets into my nose. Overrated, it is an average cleanser. I don’t understand the hype. Even though it contains 150 ml of product, it can only lasts me for a short 2 months because of the excessive leakage/spillage.

I would not buy it again even though it is affordable because the packaging causes the product to be very wasteful. If you do want to try this product, I would recommend you to just leave it in your bathroom at home and not take it in the plane. But if you insist, for the safety of your wallet, fill it up inside a small travel bottle instead… save money and save space!

REVIEW: Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream

~AG~

The award-winning Water Bank Essence has been my skincare moisturizer for over two years. However, prior to the wedding, my skin started feeling tight and dry even after application of Water Bank Essence. Decided to layer on another moisturizer with the Water Bank Essence for added hydration. Laneige Water Bank line was a safe choice for me as my sensitive skin does not have adverse effects to their products. The product that I bought was the Water Bank Gel Cream (S$52). One tub contains 50 ml of gel cream.

This gel-type moisturiser infused with Winter Cypress Polysaccharide Extracts restores your skin cells and cools irritated skin. This product is one of Laneige’s Water Bank series, formulated with Hydro Ion Mineral Water, Quinoa extract, Olive Squalane and Tilansia Extract. It provides rich hydration for your skin throughout the day. Water Bank Gel Cream_Ex is a reliable product for sensitive skin or if you desire firmer and youthful skin.

Laneige Water Bank Gel Cream claims to soothe skin redness caused by dry conditions, controls excess sebum, and to prevent clogged pores. This all sounds good for someone with sensitive and recently dehydrated skin that is prone to breakout. During a beauty roadshow, a test of my skin hydration level revealed it to be at 10% only. I was horrified to find out the results. The numerous hours spent in an air-conditioned office and sleeping the whole night with the AC has taken a toll on my skin. Previously, my skin type was combination skin with oily T-zones. But now my skin has changed to become a dry skin type.

Been using the Gel Cream for over three weeks now. After facial cleansing and toner, I apply Water Bank Essence all over my face. Once my skin has fully absorbed the Water Bank Essence, a pea-sized amount of Laneige Gel Cream will be applied. Since my cheeks area tend to feel tight, I usually apply an extra layer of the Gel Cream on the dehydrated areas.

Laneige Gel Cream has a nice gel texture that feels lightweight on the skin. Even though I layer the Water Bank Essence and Gel Cream on my skin, it does not feel sticky or greasy at all. My sensitive skin did not have any allergic reaction after using the Gel Cream. * thumbs up* I would recommend the Water Bank Essence and Gel Cream combination for those with dry skin. For those with oily or normal skin type, you can just apply the Water Bank Essence or Gel Cream, as I have previously. Another tip: If you are traveling soon or have a friend traveling soon, please ask them to help you buy your Laneige products from the Duty Free at Changi Airport. It costs only $44.70 at Duty Free, giving up a total savings of $7.30

NEW BUY: COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch & Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask

~AG~

COSRX was introduced to be by Youtuber, Joan Kim. She talked about how much she loved COSRX products for the treatment of acne-prone skin. So decided to purchase some of their products while I was in Korea last month. Bought these COSRX products from an A-Land store at Myeongdong, Korea. Since I am currently using Derma-RX products, my skincare purchase was kept at a minimum. The product that I wanted to try out the most was the Acne Pimple Master Patch.
COSRX Acne Pimple Master Patch
KRW 3,500 (S$4.50)
This acne patch is one of Wishtrend's 2016 Best Awards winner. One sheet contains 24 patches in three different sizes: 7mm, 10mm and 12mm. This hydrocolloid patch prevents existing acne from further infection by external pollutants. This thin acne patch helps to deflate whiteheads and pimples, by absorbing acne secretion.

NEW BUY: Dear, Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap

~AG~

While in South Korea recently, MG wanted to stop by ALAND stores to buy some COSRX and Klairs skincare products. We spent some time at ALAND Myeongdong store to find some current popular products in the Korean beauty world.
Dear, Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap retails for KRW 10,500 (SGD $13.50). This is a heavy price tag for a bar soap that weighs 100 grams. Klairs Charcoal Soap claims to purify pores without over-drying skin. Charcoal eliminates dead skin cells and organic Moroccan Ghassoul (mineral clay) eliminates sebum. Black sugar exfoliates to give a brighter and clearer skin. It also contains hydrating ingredients such as coconut oil, jojoba oil, cocoa seed butter and grapeseed oil. Essential oils such as lavender and eucalyptus are also found in Klairs Charcoal Soap. This natural soap does not contain fragrances, preservatives, artificial foaming agents and emulsifiers.

My plan is to use Dear, Klairs Gentle Black Sugar Charcoal Soap for my back area. Since I am constantly plagued by back acne, using a targeted cleanser for that area will be a good idea. My hope is for Klairs Charcoal Soap to help prevent back acne from appearing. *fingers crossed*

REVIEW: Laneige Brightening Sparkling Water Foam Cleanser

~MG~
This rich, whipped foam cleanser is infused with purifying Sparkling Water sourced from the South of France. Its ultra - light formula, enriched with minerals and nutrients, hydrates and enhances skin turnover to reveal a more luminous complexion. Five Multi - fruit AHAs, extracted from bilberries, sugar maple, sugar cane, lemons and oranges, gently exfoliate for smoother, brighter skin. http://intl.target.com/p/laneige-150-ml-foam-basic-cleansing-facial-cleanser/-/A-16643906

Bought this Laneige Brightening Sparkling Water Foam Cleanser during my last trip to the States. I was so excited to see Laneige products being sold in Target. This Laneige Foam Cleanser usually retails for US$23, but I bought it when it was on sale. Laneige products are typically quite good. But this is the WORST Laneige product that I have tried. 150 ml. Apply to dry face, use a ping-pong ball-sized amount of foam. There was no tingling sensation when washing my face with the foam cleanser. This cleanser would not be suitable for in-shower use. Since I usually wash my face in the shower, this foam cleanser was an inconvenient addition to my routine. The texture of the foam was unusual. It was a dense foam, and was rather patchy. The foam come out looking like a scrub. Compared to Biore Whip Cleanser, Laneige Brightening Sparkling Water Foam Cleanser texture is sub-par. My skin feels squeaky clean and quite tight after washing. This Foam Cleanser might be too drying for those with dry or normal skin types. The packaging is not travel friendly as it is bulky and comes in an aerosol can. This is my least liked Laneige product. Would NOT recommend this Laneige Brightening Sparking Water Foam Cleanser to anyone.

REVIEW: Guerisson 9 Complex Cream

Guerisson 9 Complex Cream
~MG~
I heard about this product from on Get It Beauty. She was raving on how excellent it is. And I did not know much about horse oil being used in skincare product before coming across this cream. I bought it in Seoul on May 2015 from Olive Young for about 25,000KRW. I was hesitating whether I should buy it because I was kind of scared that it would be too oily for my combination oily skin since it is made out of oil after all! I was with my friend at that moment and he was telling me that horse oil is known for its great moisturizing power. He said that the Mongolians during their harsh winter actually use horse oil to protect their faces! After hearing so, I got more interested into the product and decided to try the tester. After applying some of the product, the moisturization and scent had won me over! The texture is thick but as you blend it out and tap tap on your face, it sinks into your skin. FYI, I have very dry hand and my hand felt so soft and moisturized when I tested it on my hands. This cream has a fresh citrusy, which I love! Just thinking of the scent makes getting ready for bed something to look forward to. They provide a spatula along with the product, which is a bonus!
What is left of the cream
The light texture of the cream

Since I have combination oily skin, I only use this product at night before my facial oil. I prefer to use a thicker and more moisturizing cream at night to protect my face from the dry air from the air-con. I went to Seoul this past March for a week and the day that I arrived, the weather suddenly became very cold and windy! On some days, it even went before zero degree! Even though this cream, I originally used as a night cream because of its thicker texture and more moisturizing property, I had to use this product both day and night when in korea. Even so, it wasn’t enough for my face to be comfortably moisturized because I remembered waking up one morning with my neck having eczema. I used to have eczema on my neck when I came back and forth between the U.S. and Singapore but it has been a few years since I last had it. I didn’t want history to repeat itself because I remember how itchy, flaky, red and dry my neck was! So after applying the horse oil cream, I still had to apply a thin layer of my trusty Elizabeth Arden’s Eight-hour cream because the Korean winter was that harsh!

This tub took me about 6 months to finish up. I would recommend oily skin people and those living in hot and humid climate to only use this product at night. For others, you may use both day and night. Although for dry skin people in hot and humid climate, you may want to try out with a thinner layer first in the daytime, just in case it would be too much and oily for under the sun. I would repurchase this product but maybe not now, I still have 2 night moisturizers in my back-up stock!
